In this episode I’ll talk about the 3 filters I use to observe a horse or horse and rider. This is especially helpful when I meet a new horse and rider. It helps me see the big picture so I can best know how to help them. Diagnosing an issue can be challenging because, as many of you know, the real problem is not always the problem that shows up the most obviously.

These 3 filters helps you take the myriad of infinite issues you may be experiencing, and boils it down to 3 main categories… it’s a starting point for problem-solving, and it is a blueprint for horse development

I recently asked people what they were doing when they listened to my podcast.
Many people were driving, some were doing household chores, some were in the bathtub, some having a cuppa tea or coffee, and there was lots and lots of manure-picking going on! So I decided to make a podcast that would connect all those activities to horsemanship… curious?

In this episode of AKA, I answer a couple of questions from students… The first one has to do with how to handle it when you have an instructor, but you want to take clinics from other trainers or instructors…

Then I answer a question about how to reconcile trusting your instincts with what you are feeling (something I tell students often) with the fact that sometimes new sensations, even if valuable, can feel weird or ‘wrong’…

This connects also to how to handle things when your instructor says something is ‘good’ when it feels ‘not good’ and vice versa.

In this episode I talk about the importance of being YOU! So many students miss a deeper relationship with their horse or miss important moments in their training because they are paralyzed by a fear of ‘doing it wrong’. Many trainers and instructors are getting burned out because they are trying to fit in a professional mold, instead of fully embracing the full value of what they have to offer.

This podcast will free you to be yourself by explaining how important it is. I’ll also present 2 powerful questions to ask yourself that will help you be more you and boldly take the actions you want to take!

Sweet Solana!
It took a long time for her to 'give me her body' in an open and relaxed way.
She has always been attentive and interactive, but physically defensive and blocked.
I doubted whether she would ever really be open to enjoying dressage.
Now... she is a rock star! Schooling Prix St George...
The key? Proving to her that my aids are there to help her move more freely...
Then approaching dressage movements like tricks with beginning and endpoints and lots of rewards for effort.
She is a joy to ride and is so proud of herself now.
You can see videos of her from the very beginning until now in the Dressage Naturally Video Classroom. You can get to that and everything else DN at https://dressagenaturally.net

Solana's Spanish Walk is coming along quite nicely!
I find it a great exercise to teach a horse to balance themselves and to strengthen and free up their shoulders. I often transition to and from Spanish Walk in the middle of other movements such as half pass or after down transitions to keep the horse thinking of staying light and up in front.
It's also a key piece for developing passage! Piaffe Spanish Walk transitions often lead to a horse's first passage steps if they aren't naturally inclined towards passage.

IMPROVING PROFESSIONAL 🐴
Enjoy this short excerpt from this week's pod! 🎤
In this episode I’ll take a look at what ‘professional’ looks like when it comes to horse care…I’ll look at what I call the factory-training business model and why we need to change it.
I’ll share a bit of my story of when I reinvented myself and how that benefitted my horses and why it’s so important that heart-centered horse professionals learn how to thrive in the horse business… not just so they can have a fulfilling sustainable and profitable life they can LOVE… but because it directly influences the QUALITY OF LIFE FOR HORSES.
