EP116: Making Progress with Limited Time

In this episode, I’ll share my thoughts and strategies about what I do with my horses when I am traveling a lot or when my schedule is more erratic. It’s a really common challenge for busy people who want to make progress with their horses. This episode will give you ideas about how you can make progress even when your time with your horse is inconsistent.

EP115: Confidence is over-rated

In this episode I’ll talk about beginner’s luck, beginner’s mind, and the scale of competence, and how confidence can be over-rated… all inspired by a couple days in the kitchen making macarons for the first (and second) time. When I go into the kitchen, interesting things often come out… hopefully, this podcast is one of them.

EP114: Yoga with Cathy Woods

Cathy Woods, creator of Body, Mind, Equine (TM), and author of Yoga for Riders; is a pioneer in combining yoga, mindfulness, and horsemanship to improve horsemanship from ground to saddle through the use of yoga postures and principles; supporting mindfulness in horsemanship and supporting equestrian wellness. In this podcast, I talk to her about what it means to create your own personal practice and how it can create more unity between you and your horse.

That feeling when your horse has had a year and a half of health issues... and now she is feeling stronger and oh so lovely. 🥰 😍
Someday I will be too old for bareback and bridleless... but today is not the day. 😎

Why does some information make you feel inspired, and other information makes you feel icky?

Have you ever met someone who can, with seemingly great authority, spout off facts, data points, and of course, all the things that are 'incorrect'...

Yet somehow when you are in their presence you end up feeling dumber and more confused... ?

Yeah, me too.

I never want to be 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 person.

I'm interested in delivering information be applied, put to good use, and will help people feel more curious, empowered, and capable.

That doesn't mean we don't need to sometimes face hard facts and admit to ourselves that, in the presence of new information, we need to do things differently...

It just means that we need to beware of people who criticize and find fault only for the purpose of their own ego or making others feel inept.

... Especially if they are selling you something.

Our silly human brains are designed to think uber-critical people are smarter.

Did you know there is a thing called the "Cynical Genius Illusion"?

Across multiple tests, researchers found that roughly 70% of people firmly believe that cynical individuals are smarter and more competent.

Yet: Data showed that highly cynical individuals generally perform worse on cognitive ability and academic competency tasks than less cynical, more trusting people.

As comedian Stephen Colbert said: "Cynicism masquerades as wisdom but it is the furthest thing from it".

Maybe it's a "bad" marketing strategy for me to constantly tell people how much they can do on their own, and how much they can trust their instincts.

Maybe it's "bad" strategy for selling courses when at clinics I leave students feeling happy, empowered, and like they don't need me.

But what is bad for marketing is good for the heart. 🤗

And...

𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲.

I don't want to toy with your emotions.

I just want to help you know how awesome you are and what you can do.

In this episode I share some observations from my last two trips: An event in Italy with multiple presenters where I found common threads, and a clinic in Maine where once again I saw the power of the Finding The Sweet Spot in action.
